Model history

The Audi Quattro Type 85 – often referred to as the "Urquattro" – was the first production vehicle with permanent all-wheel drive and a turbocharged engine in 1980. It was based on the Audi Coupé from the B2 series and was equipped with a 2.1-litre five-cylinder turbocharged engine with 200 hp. The Quattro set new standards in traction and driving dynamics – both on the road and in rallying, where it enjoyed numerous successes in the 1980s. Around 11,500 units were built until 1991. To this day, the Urquattro is considered a technical flagship and icon of Audi's history.

    Technik: Der Audi quattro (von Audi auch als Urquattro bezeichnet) ist ein Sportcoupé der Marke Audi, der zwischen Frühjahr 1980 und Mitte 1991 hergestellt wurde. Mit 11.452 gebauten Einheiten war er eines der ersten in größeren Stückzahlen produzierten Straßenfahrzeuge mit permanentem Allradantrieb und maßgeblich für die Erfolgsgeschichte des Quattro-Antriebs von Audi sowie für den Einsatz des permanenten Allradantriebs in Straßenfahrzeugen generell. Der Urquattro erhielt einen permanenten Vierradantrieb mit mittlerer und hinterer Differenzialsperre. Bis Ende 1981 konnte man beide Sperren manuell und unabhängig voneinander mit zwei Klauenkupplungen über Seilzüge schalten. Von 1982 bis einschließlich 1987 konnte man beide oder nur die hintere Sperre manuell elektropneumatisch ein- und ausschalten. LG Tom
