Model History:
First introduced at the 1963 London Motor Show, the Jaguar S-Type was intended to bridge the gap between the Jaguar Mark II and the larger Mark X. While the S-Type did bear some resemblance to the Mark II - this was because, among other things, much of the Mark II's bodywork was used in the S-Type - the S-Type was actually an updated and slightly enlarged version of that vehicle. Unlike the Mark II, however, the S-Type featured the independent rear suspension design already used in the Mark X and E-Type: This primarily ensured that the car had a distinct character. In 1968, production of the S-Type ended after just over 25,000 units had been produced.
General information about the vehicle:
In this auction, a right-hand drive Jaguar S-Type from the 1966 model year can now be acquired, which was imported from South Africa to Holland in 1998 and, according to the seller's information, underwent an overhaul there over the course of several years. This work amounted at that time to approx. 26,000 € including engine overhaul. Two owners are known for this sedan with the chassis number A1B56967, the history of the vehicle can be traced via various invoices from 1998 to 2003. The car is already H-registered, TÜV is not available at the moment. A classic-analytics vehicle valuation from 2018 is available and certified the Jaguar S-Type a replacement value of €47,400 and a condition grade of 2+.
Exterior color/paint/bodywork:
Almost the entire body structure of the S-Type resembled the Mark II, but the front fenders were slightly modified, the roof was raised for more headroom and the rear window was modified accordingly. The bumpers were made slightly thinner and a redesigned, longer rear end was used due to the change in rear axle design. After consultation with the seller, the white Jaguar sedan has already been completely repainted, he can exclude an accident in the current holding period. In addition, there are apparently no modifications deviating from the original condition and on the exterior there are generally only minimal signs of use.
Exterior wheels/brakes/chassis:
70-90% of their new condition, the seller certifies the tires - these are mounted on original chrome spoke wheels. In the area of the brake system, the seller estimates the condition at 50-70%, chassis-wise he is not aware of any inconsistencies.
Interior:
Red full leather as well as many burl wood trim elements in the interior of this Jaguar S-Type exude a noble ambience
.
Although minor signs of wear can be taken from the interior, on the whole the condition can be described as good. In addition to power steering, among other things, there is a radio on board the sedan. The seller lets mention that the heater is currently without function and the parcel shelf should be reupholstered. To get an exact overview of the condition and the equipment features in the interior of the Jaguar, we refer to the numerous available photos of the vehicle.
Mileage
77,601 miles can be read on the speedometer of this S-Type: For an approximately traceable history, some invoices from the years 1998-2003 are available, a checkbook no longer exists. According to the seller, the sedan has been driven only a few 100 kilometers in the last 7 years. All instruments and gauges in the interior obviously show a problem-free function.
Engine
From 3.8-liter displacement the in-line six-cylinder of the S-Type generates 224 hp - the power transmission to the rear axle is done by a 5-speed manual gearbox
. In2020, the last service work took place, but the seller mentions that the fluids of the car should be changed.
Underbody:
According to the seller, the underside of the Jaguar is in preserved and completely cavity-sealed condition. Age-appropriate traces of flash rust cannot be ruled out, according to the seller. Due to the independent rear suspension design used on the S-Type, this sedan has its own character compared to the Mark II. For those who want to experience the typical British driving experience (including right-hand drive) with a lot of charm and luxurious equipment, this Jaguar S-Type from the year of manufacture 1966 is ideally suited.
