Model history

What is now a natural part of the Porsche model range was a difficult birth at the beginning of the 1990s: the second sports car series alongside the Porsche 911, Type 986, Boxster. Identical to the 911 (996) right up to the A-pillar and built with many other identical parts, the two-seater mid-engined roadster was able to lead Porsche out of the red. The mid-engine layout ensured agility and the use of a water-cooled six-cylinder boxer engine made it clear that the Boxster was also a genuine Porsche. Initially, the engine generated 204 hp from a displacement of 2.5 liters and was soon followed by more powerful model versions.
