Model history

The appearance of a Volvo PV 544 is very reminiscent of its predecessor - the PV 444. The most noticeable difference in the model offered by the Swedes from 1958 onwards is the windscreen, which is now a one-piece design. A new dashboard and more space in the rear seat provided further changes compared to the PV 444. PV already stood for "personvagn" - the Swedish word for passenger car - in the manufacturer's earlier models. Together with the Amazon presented in 1956, the PV 544 was one of the first vehicles with standard three-point safety belts at the front. The Volvo's dashboard was also padded to provide an additional level of safety.
