In 2004, BMW presented the first generation of the newly introduced "1 Series", which represented the Bavarian car manufacturer's new entry-level model. In the tradition of the manufacturer, the engines of the 1 Series BMW - internal designation (for the sedan) E87 - are installed longitudinally behind the front axle. In addition to various four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, the sedans of the 1 series were the most powerful variant and also had an in-line six-cylinder engine under the bonnet: 130i was the top model in the sedans.
