Model history
The Fiat 500, also known as the "Cinquecento," was produced from 1957 as the new entry-level model from Italian car manufacturer Fiat. It was developed under the direction of Dante Giacosa, who had been pursuing ideas for a microcar with a displacement of around 400 cm³ since the 1930s. As the successor to the Topolino, the Fiat 500 was officially named "Nuova 500," although it had no technical similarities with its predecessor. By 1977, over 3.7 million units had rolled off the production line, including the Giardiniera station wagon version and several special models. Today, the Fiat 500 is considered a symbol of Italian automotive history and an icon of the post-war era.
