Technik: Das Konzept des luftgekühlten Boxermotors als Heckmotor blieb, allerdings wurde der Vierzylinder mit 1,6 Litern Hubraum des Vorgängermodells durch einen neu konstruierten Zweiliter-Sechszylindermotor ersetzt. Grund für die Erhöhung von Zylinderanzahl und Hubraum war zum einen, dass der noch auf dem Motor des VW Käfers basierende 356-Serienmotor mit maximal 95 PS (70 kW) Leistung nicht mehr mit wirtschaftlich vertretbarem Aufwand weiterentwickelt werden konnte und zum anderen die Tatsache, dass ein Sechszylindermotor eine größere Laufruhe und somit höheren Komfort bietet. Die Leistung des neuen Antriebs betrug 96 kW (130 PS) bei einer Drehzahl von 6100/min. Zwei Solex-Dreifachvergaser erzeugten das Kraftstoff-Luftgemisch. Eine Trockensumpfschmierung mit Ölkühler am Motor (später auch ein zusätzlicher Kühler im vorderen rechten Kotflügel) diente zur Schmierung und inneren Kühlung des Motors. Der große Axialventilator für die Kühlluft fiel im Motorraum sofort ins Auge. LG Tom
