The Golf 1 Cabriolet, presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 1979, replaced the Beetle Cabriolet and set new standards in the open-top compact car class. It was the first convertible with a fixed roll bar and offered four full-size seats, agile engines and front-wheel drive. With 388,522 units produced, it surpassed the production of the Beetle Cabriolet and was continuously developed further until 1993. The Golf 1 Cabriolet remains a successful classic and an important part of automotive history.
