Model history

When Porsche launched the 993 model series in 1997, there was an outcry of indignation from the ranks of the so-called "cast-iron", for whom blower cooling and round headlights were always paramount in the 911. But with the new 911, four-valve technology with two overhead camshafts was used for the first time. And water cooling was understandable from a technical point of view, as this technology allowed the performance range to be further expanded. The new model offered a choice of rear-wheel or all-wheel drive, Coupé, Targa or Cabriolet.

Summary

The new 911 presented in 1997 initially triggered an outcry from traditionalists, but of course we have long known better, because Porsche had no other choice: neither the stricter emissions regulations nor the demands for further increases in engine power could be realized with air cooling.
