Model history:
In 1974, the successor to the VW Karmann-Ghia, the Scirocco, was introduced. The Scirocco was built on the same platform as the Golf and presented itself to the market as an attractively priced coupe. This was a significant step for Volkswagen to overcome their sales crisis, as the Scirocco was offered along with the popular Golf, Passat and Polo models. The Scirocco impressed both visually and technically. The body design, created by renowned designer Giorgio Giugiaro, and the striking lines were quickly well received. The Scirocco was offered in three different engine variants: a 1.1-liter engine with 50 hp and 1.5-liter engines with 70 or 85 hp. In 1976, the more powerful version of the Scirocco, the Scirocco GTI, was introduced. This model featured a larger Bosch fuel-injected engine that delivered a sporty 110 horsepower.
General information about the vehicle:
In this auction you have the opportunity to purchase a 1976 VW Scirocco. The vehicle carries the vehicle identification number (VIN) 5372018290 and comes from first hand. Currently, the Scirocco does not have a valid MOT, as this expired in 2022. The vehicle is not registered and is not in running condition. As part of a restoration, the car was visually refurbished. In addition, the owner confirms that the vehicle is accident-free.
Exterior color/paint/bodywork:
The Scirocco presents itself on the roads in a stylish orange with black mirrors and radiator grille. The entire body is covered with eye-catching Jägermeister stickers, as can be seen in the pictures. The paint is apparently in good condition. Additionally, other visual modifications have been made in the past. These include new sidelights, a Zender rear spoiler, a roof spoiler, a Zender headlight grille, side sill moldings and tinted windows.
Exterior Rims/Brakes/Suspension:
The Scirocco's sporty look is complemented by silver 13-inch rims. On the rims are BFGoodrich tires that have good tread depth, estimated at 50-70%. The owner states that the braking system needs to be renewed, but there are no other known irregularities related to the chassis.
Interior:
The interior of the car is characterized by a black fabric interior. Together with a silver-black three-spoke steering wheel, sport seats and a black dashboard, the overall look is sporty and rustic. In the front, the windows can be rolled down in the traditional way. The benches in the rear have been removed to save weight. According to the information available to us, there are no known serious defects in the interior, as can be seen in the pictures, the interior has been tinkered with from time to time over the years. At this point we would like to refer again to the professional picture gallery, which offers further insights.
Mileage:
Based on the owner's information, the Scirocco was allowed to collect about 180,000 km of experience. Since no checkbook is available, the exact course of these kilometers cannot be traced. However, the current owner assures that the instruments and displays in the interior function perfectly.
Engine:
Equipped with a 1.6-liter engine that develops 110 hp, the Scirocco knows how to impress in terms of performance. Power is transmitted to the axles via a five-speed manual transmission. According to the owner, the last service was performed in May 2018.
Inaddition, the engine runs with the help of a bypass aid.
Underbody:
The current owner describes the underside of the Scirocco as rust-free. Normal age-appropriate signs of use may be present. We have no information on what repairs have been done in the past. However, the owner states that all fluids should be changed, the brake system needs service, and the engine needs a little time. Apart from that, the car is visually in good condition and the engine runs - when it runs - without any known problems.
With its sporty orange paintwork and the visual modifications made, the 1976 Scirocco presents itself as an absolute eye-catcher and a timeless classic of the German car manufacturer
