Model history:

In 1974, the successor to the VW Karmann-Ghia, the Scirocco, was introduced. The Scirocco was built on the same platform as the Golf and presented itself to the market as an attractively priced coupe. This was a significant step for Volkswagen to overcome their sales crisis, as the Scirocco was offered along with the popular Golf, Passat and Polo models. The Scirocco impressed both visually and technically. The body design, created by renowned designer Giorgio Giugiaro, and the striking lines were quickly well received.
