Model history:
Mercedes-Benz also provided many technical highlights for the second SL generation, which were soon pioneering for other manufacturers. The effortless manual operation of the soft top, for example, was considered a sensation. Mercedes engineers also used innovative elements in safety technology: the 230 SL was the world's first sports car to feature a "safety body with a rigid passenger cell and crumple zones at the front and rear. The 230 SL was followed at the end of 1966 by the 250 SL with a 2.5-liter in-line six-cylinder engine, which in turn was superseded by the 170-hp 280 SL. In the entire construction period of the W 113 from 1963 to 1971, a total of almost 49,000 units were built.
General information about the vehicle:
In this auction, you now have the opportunity to acquire a Mercedes-Benz of the 113 series, which comes from first registration in 1967. The history of this Pagoda is as follows according to the seller: The vehicle was purchased in Germany, then emigrated with the buyers to America, only to return later in the course of the return of those owners to Germany. Afterwards the second owner acquired this Pagoda, in order to land finally with the third and so far last owner, who calls the W 113 now 20 years its own and which had a completely new 2,8-Liter (M 130) with 170 HP installed. All in all there are 3 known owners of the Pagoda, the car does not have an exact history, because there is no checkbook - but the current owner of the car says that the mileage is approximately comprehensible. The Mercedes-Benz does not yet have a valid MOT, nor does it have an H license plate. However, the seller states that this partially restored Pagoda is completely roadworthy.
Exterior color/paint/bodywork:
The paint color of this Mercedes-Benz from its first registration in 1967 is a simple shade of white - a repainting has already taken place after consultation with the current owner, but an accident-free condition in the current ownership is confirmed. Except for a dent in the body, the seller classifies the exterior condition of the Pagoda as very good: All add-on parts are in complete condition and all chrome trim parts are apparently still very shiny. The convertible top is in good condition for its age - it presents itself in classic black.
Itis worth mentioning that a hardtop in black is also available for this W 113 and is included.
Exterior Rims/Brakes/Chassis:
Fulda brand
tiresshow up mounted on Mercedes-Benz steel rims with chrome hubcaps - the seller estimates the condition of the tires at 50-70%. He also attests 50-70% of their new condition to the brake system, which has already been renewed in his possession.
There areobviously no major defects in the chassis.
Interior:
The interior is extremely extroverted in terms of color, with red leather seats, red door panels and red footwell carpeting. Only the light ivory two-spoke steering wheel and the white dashboard stand out in the largely red interior. In terms of condition, the interior of the Pagoda is in good shape without any inconsistencies. The equipment includes a contemporary radio. All instruments, controls and gauges are in perfect working order and the folding mechanism of the convertible top is easy to operate. For more details, please take a look at the other photos and videos.
Mileage:
In chrome, the instruments are in the driver's direct field of vision: the five-digit speedometer reads 5,700 kilometers, reflecting the mileage after the M 130 engine was installed. The seller states that the mileage of this Pagoda can be partially traced.
Engine:
As mentioned at the beginning, a 2.8-liter inline six cylinder (M 130) is now working in the engine compartment of this W 113, which produces 170 hp and transmits the power of the 6 cylinders to the rear axle via a 4-speed manual transmission. This engine was completely new before installation. In the holding period of the current owner, the Mercedes-Benz also got, among other things, a new clutch, a new fuel pump and a new radiator installed. The exhaust was also new. This W 113 received its last service in 2022.
Underbody:
Considering the vehicle age of this Pagoda of almost 55 years, the underbody is in good condition with solid substance. A second-generation Mercedes-Benz SL offers graceful elegance paired with a sporty heart. With this Mercedes-Benz W 113 offered here the future owner acquires a Pagoda in great color combination and all around healthy substance. In addition, the seller had a brand new 2.8-liter engine installed here along with various other new parts, which was the most powerful expansion stage in the W 113 at the time.
