    Technik: Unter großem Beifall der Kritiker schien es Rover gelungen zu sein, ein Auto zu bauen, das sowohl auf der Straße als auch im Gelände gleichermaßen leistungsfähig war – in beiden Umgebungen wohl besser als jedes andere Allradfahrzeug seiner Zeit. Mit einer Höchstgeschwindigkeit von 153 km/h und einer Beschleunigung von 0 auf 97 km/h in weniger als 15 Sekunden war die Leistung den Angaben zufolge besser als bei vielen Familienlimousinen seiner Zeit, und die Geländegängigkeit war dank des langen Federwegs und der hohen Bodenfreiheit gut. Die Classic Range Rover von 1995 verkürzten die Zeit von 0 auf 97 km/h auf rund 11 Sekunden und erhöhten die Höchstgeschwindigkeit auf rund 180 km/h. Bemerkenswerte Leistungen im Gelände waren der Gewinn der Allradklasse bei der ersten Rallye Paris-Dakar 1979 und 1981 und die Tatsache, dass sie (zusammen mit einem Land Rover Series IIA ) von 1971 bis 1972 als zwei der ersten Fahrzeuge beide amerikanischen Kontinente von Norden nach Süden durch die Darién-Lücke durchquerten.
