Model history:
The history of the legendary G-Class from Mercedes-Benz began in 1979: at the beginning, the G was only sparsely motorized and sparsely equipped. The most powerful petrol engine of the W 460 series was the 2.8-litre six-cylinder in-line engine, while the most powerful diesel engine was a 3.0-litre in-line five-cylinder engine delivering 88 hp. A G-model has always been iconic, more and more body variants were added over time, there was something for everyone. The cult surrounding the G-Class continues to this day – especially the idiosyncratic design, which was only marginally changed up to the latest generation, creates an incredibly large recognition value.
General information about the vehicle:
Now a Mercedes-Benz 240 GD from 1987 is offered for auction, which was originally imported from France and, according to the seller, still has only 4 holders. Whether the so-called matching numbers are available is not known, the mileage of the G can be partially traced via an existing history. A technical inspection was last completed in 2022, which is why the TÜV is now valid until March 2024. Also available for the off-road vehicle is an expert opinion for historic vehicles.
Exterior colour/varnish/body:
The body of the Mercedes-Benz 240 GD shines in classic white - whether a repainting has ever been carried out on the vehicle, the current owner of the car can not say with certainty. According to the seller, however, the paint is in a clean and at the same time well-maintained condition without inconsistencies, in addition, all plastic attachments on the exterior of the G-model are in good condition and deviations from the original condition can apparently not be detected on the body. The exact condition of the exterior can be found in the further photos.
Exterior rims/brakes/chassis:
From the wheels, this 240 GD stands on original silver steel rims, on which tires (all-weather tires in the dimension 225/75 R16) are mounted in a condition of about 30-50%. The seller attests to the brake system a state of preservation of 70-90% and in the area of the chassis according to him no gross defects are to be mentioned.
Interior:
The front seats of the Mercedes-Benz are upholstered in a contemporary pattern. The seller mentions that the interior of the 240 GD is in original condition without any modifications except for the rear seat, which got a different upholstery over the years, and gross wear or signs of use can not be seen in it. On request, the seller can have the fabric of the back seat covered with the original pattern. In the rear compartment of the G-model, the fastening hooks for a bench seat are also available. In addition to power steering, the equipment also includes a trailer coupling. For a detailed overview of the interior, we refer to the other photos.
Mileage:
90,377 kilometers can be read from the speedometer in the simply equipped instrument cluster - according to the seller, this mileage can be approximately proven by a partially existing history. All instruments, displays and controls in the interior are fully functional.
Engine:
The in-line four-cylinder diesel engine with the designation OM 616 has a displacement of 2.4 liters - it provides an output of 72 hp, which is brought to the road via a 4-speed manual transmission. In addition to a switchable all-wheel drive, this 240 GD also has an off-road reduction and 2 differential locks. In March 2022, a major service took place at Mercedes-Benz.
Subsoil:
The current owner of the Mercedes-Benz describes the underbody of this 240 GD as rustproof, unwelded and preserved as well as cavity sealed. Even neuralgic places such as the frame with spring mounts present themselves according to the seller's statements solid. It is worth mentioning that this G-model was a civilian vehicle and, according to the seller, few winter trips were carried out with it. The classic design, the robust diesel engine and the original and well-preserved overall condition of this 240 GD ensure that the off-road vehicle will probably give its future owner many years of pleasure.
