In the Mercedes-Benz W 123 model series, the Stuttgart-based company offered the body styles saloon, saloon long version, estate (station wagon) and coupé. The engines still came from the predecessor model, the "Stroke Eight". In the W 123 model series, the "280" represented the highest engine, which was particularly popular in coupés – the coupés internally called the C 123 had a wheelbase that was over 80 millimetres shorter than that of a saloon, which in combination with the lower roof and the strongly inclined front and rear windows gave the car a squat appearance compared to the saloon. Series production of the coupé ended in 1985 – 1 year before the W 123 Saloon was discontinued.

Now a Mercedes-Benz 280 CE from the year of construction 1978 can be purchased in this auction. This coupé of the 123 series with chassis number 12305312009595 was first registered in the USA in July 1978, and over the years the 280 CE then came to Germany. Due to the lack of a history, the current owner cannot provide any information about the number of owners of the car – the seller only knows that this Mercedes-Benz comes from a collection. In addition to an H-approval and 1 set of keys, the coupé has a valid main inspection, which runs until June 2023. According to the seller, the so-called matching numbers are given.

The exterior of this 280 CE is kept in "light blue metallic": According to the owner, repainting has already taken place all around over the years, rust spots, paint chips or gross defects in the exterior of this coupé can not be enumerated, according to him. The chrome on the car still shines as it should and all add-on parts on the vehicle are obviously completely preserved, in addition, there are no modifications deviating from the original condition on the Mercedes-Benz. A USA badge is emblazoned on the radiator grille, and a trailer hitch catches the eye at the rear. The current owner can rule out an accident during his holding period.

As the model name "280 CE" already reveals, a 2.8-liter in-line six-cylinder engine is located under the hood in the bow of the coupé, the shifting is done by a 4-speed automatic.
