Model history

The E39-generation BMW M5 was unveiled at the 1998 Geneva Motor Show and was offered exclusively as a sedan. At the heart of the vehicle was the newly developed 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine with 400 hp, which delivered impressive performance. To simplify production, European and North American models differed only in a few details such as turn signals, catalytic converters, and brakes. While a sunroof was optional in Germany, it was standard equipment in the U.S. A total of around 20,500 vehicles were produced, nearly half of which were destined for the North American market. In 2000, the M5 received a facelift as part of the model update for the E39 series. Until it was replaced in 2005 by its successor, the E60, the M5 E39 remained the most powerful model from BMW M GmbH.

LG Tom
