In the seventies, the topic of passive safety was a top priority. Cabriolets in particular fell into disrepute as unsafe. But there were open-top vehicles with roll bars – they were at their peak at that time. The original three-series E21 was also described by Baur Aufschneiderei in the best sense of the word: From the end of 1977 to 1982, the E21 - just like its predecessor - was transformed into a top convertible (TC) in the country. The Swabian sliced meat has a removable targa roof and a folding top with plastic rear window. This results in four possible uses: closed as a coupé, with an open targa roof, only open top at the rear as a landaulet and completely open as a so-called top convertible.

The BMW E21 320 released for auction in this auction is a Baur TC1, which comes from 3rd hand with the VIN WBA27510005967933 and was first registered in Germany in 1979. The current owner assumes the so-called matching numbers, but according to the seller there is unfortunately no longer a history, as there is no longer a checkbook for the vehicle. This partially restored top-of-the-range convertible is already in possession of an H-registration, and it also has TÜV until March 2025.

Exterior paint/paint/body:

Visually, this Baur TC1 presents itself in a "black metallic" paint color, which, according to the seller, is in generally very good condition without rust spots. This BMW has already been given a complete paint job over the years, but the seller can rule out that it is accident-free in its current ownership. Only the rear window is a bit milky, otherwise the exterior is in a good state of preservation, and the Targa roof and soft top are in good condition. Exterior rims/brakes/chassis:

On BMW multi-spoke alloy wheels, tires are mounted in a condition of 70-90%, according to the seller. The current owner also certifies 70-90% of their new condition to the brakes. In the area of the chassis, the tie rods, ball joints and shock absorbers were only recently new - the brake hoses were also renewed.

Interior:

In the interior, you are greeted by brown leather seats, which harmonize well with the black exterior color of the E21 and at the same time provide a certain nobility. Considering the age of the vehicle of almost 55 years, an obviously well-kept condition can be taken from the interior. In terms of equipment on board this Baur TC1, there is an accessory leather steering wheel from the Raid brand, a tarpaulin and an accessory radio, among other things. Mileage:

112,800 kilometers can be seen from the speedometer in the simple and clearly readable instrument cluster. According to the seller, the tachometer is out of order. Apart from that, all displays, instruments and controls are fully functional.

Engine:

6 cylinders with a displacement of 2.0-liter and an output of 122 hp provide propulsion - this power is transmitted to the rear axle by means of a 5-speed manual transmission. The seller mentions that the in-line six-cylinder engine as well as the manual transmission run very well and that the BMW was last serviced in March 2023. Only recently, the steering gear was renewed.
