    Technik: Ursprünglich war er als Nachfolger des VW-Porsche 914 für Volkswagen konstruiert. Porsche brachte den Wagen als eigenes Einsteigermodell unterhalb des Typs 911 auf den Markt. Der 924 war das erste Auto von Porsche mit einem wassergekühlten Frontmotor und dem Transaxle-Antrieb und war Ausdruck einer Abkehr vom technischen Konzept der Modelle mit luftgekühlten Heckmotoren. Durch den vorn platzierten Motor, der durch eine vierfach gelagerte Welle in einem starren, etwa zwei Meter langen Rohr mit dem im Heck an der Achse eingebauten Getriebe verbunden war, ergab sich eine für neutrales Fahrverhalten vorteilhaft ausgewogene Gewichtsverteilung im Verhältnis 48 : 52. Wie im Entwicklungsauftrag gefordert, wurden viele technische Bauteile aus dem VW-Konzern im Fahrzeug eingesetzt. Der anfangs eingebaute VW EA831, ein wassergekühlter 2-Liter-Vierzylinder-Reihenmotor mit 92 kW (125 PS) aus dem Audi-100, war darüber auch im VW-LT-Nutzfahrzeug eingesetzt. Das Viergangschaltgetriebe und die Trommelbremsen an der Hinterachse entstammten ebenfalls dem Audi 100. An der Vorderachse wurden die Querlenker vom VW Golf und die MacPherson-Federbeine vom VW Käfer 1303 verwendet. Die Hinterräder waren an Schräglenkern vom VW Käfer 1500 aufgehängt. Darüber hinaus wurden weitere Bauteile aus dem VW-Programm im 924 verwandt, zum Beispiel der Vorschalldämpfer des Audi 200 Turbo oder der Kühlwasserausgleichsbehälter des VW K 70. So konnten die Fertigungskosten gesenkt und der Grundpreis 1976 mit 23.240 DM niedrig gehalten werden. Im Vergleich dazu kostete ein Porsche 911 mindestens 32.000 DM. LG Tom
