Model history

Wilhelm Karmann had been pursuing the goal of developing an elegant sports car based on the VW Beetle since the end of 1953. After receiving the green light from the Volkswagen Group, he proudly presented the production-ready version of the Karmann-Ghia (Type 14) in the summer of 1955. Mechanically identical to the Beetle, the two-seater benefited from its improvements. Changes were made to both the front and rear axles as well as modified steering and gear ratios. German production of the Karmann-Ghia finally came to an end in spring 1974. This elegant vehicle remains a timeless symbol of style and design.
