Model history
The BMW E28 is the second generation of the 5 Series and was produced from 1981 to 1987. It replaced the E12 and was built at the Dingolfing plant and in South Africa. A total of over 720,000 units were produced in 14 model variants, of which the 520i, 525e, 528i, and 524td. Technically, the E28 brought numerous innovations to the 5 Series—including an on-board computer, ABS, and driver airbag—and combined driving comfort with the brand's characteristic sportiness. Today, it is considered robust, solidly built, and one of the style-defining representatives of BMW's luxury class in the 1980s.
