Technik: Die Baureihe 126 ist eine Fahrzeugbaureihe der Oberklasse von Mercedes-Benz. Auf der IAA im September 1979 vorgestellt, löste sie die Baureihe 116 als S-Klasse ab. Im September 1981 stellte Mercedes die Coupé-Variante (C 126) der Baureihe 126 auf der IAA in Frankfurt als Nachfolger des C 107 vor. Die Produktion endete offiziell im Oktober 1991. Bis April 1992 wurden aber noch 38 weitere Fahrzeuge in Sonderschutzausführung gefertigt. Mercedes-Benz South Africa fertigte die Baureihe 126 in kleiner Stückzahl bis zum Juni 1994. 500 SEC (1985–1991). Insgesamt wurden 892.123 Exemplare produziert, davon waren 74.060 Coupés. Im Oberklasse-Segment war die Baureihe 126 unangefochtener Weltmarktführer, bis heute ist sie die meistgebaute Oberklasselimousine. Nachfolgemodell ist die Baureihe 140, deren Produktion im Juli 1991 anlief. LG Tom
