Model history

The Mercedes-Benz C 215 is a luxury coupé that was marketed under the name CL-Class and is technically based on the S-Class of the 220 series. Despite sharing the same platform, the coupé had its own body design and was available exclusively with large-displacement gasoline engines. The series celebrated its world premiere in March 1999 at the Geneva Motor Show, initially as the CL 500, followed by its market launch in Europe and Japan in September 1999.
