"The flair of the real BMW has been revived here. Namely the impressively effortless handling, the performance that can be called up immediately at any time and the entire – quite simply – convincing driving culture." This is how the press kit presented to visitors to the Geneva Motor Show in 1976 at the BMW stand described it. The object of praise: the new Six-Seater Coupé, the successor to the E9. With a construction period of 13 years (from 1976 to 1989), the internally named E24 6 Series was one of the most durable BMW model series. In comparative tests at the time, it competed against Mercedes SLC of the 107 series or the Porsche 928. Handling, comfort and performance made the six-seater a grandiose Gran Turismo, which proved its sportiness with three touring car championships.

The BMW E24 series offered in this auction is the 628 CSi model from 1981. Originally delivered this 6 Series Coupé with the FIN WBA51310005570657 to Italy – over the years the BMW was then imported to Germany. According to the seller, the car still has a total of 5 owners. In addition to the given matching numbers, there are also 2 vehicle keys and the history of the sports coupé can be traced via a partially guided checkbook and various documents. This 628 CSi already has an H-approval, the seller mentions that the TÜV is still done before handing over to the future owner.

"Polarissilber" is the name given to the paint color of the BMW: The paint has already been renewed by the last Italian previous owner in Italy – only clear paint detachments are to be mentioned as optical defects, otherwise the exterior of the BMW is in a good condition corresponding to the age. On the sides of the body, black decorative stripes run on the left and right: To the rear, these side stripes close with a black rubber rear spoiler (installed ex works), which is in complaint-free condition. All plastic elements as well as the chrome on the car are also in good condition. There are no traces of a parking bumper on the front and rear spoilers – according to the seller, the 628 CSi should never have suffered an accident.

Tyres with a tread depth of approx. 7mm are mounted on the original BMW multi-spoke alloy wheels. In the area of the brake system, according to the current holder, steel flex brake lines were used, the general condition of the brakes is stated by the seller as good. The chassis of the 628 CSi is also well preserved: no deviations from the original condition can be detected here.

The interior of the E24 is sporty and luxurious: neatly upholstered and undamaged black full leather seats ensure the necessary comfort for the driver and passengers. With the exception of a bright headliner, the entire interior of the BMW is kept in black – damage or missing parts are nowhere to be found. In addition to a 4-spoke leather steering wheel and a leather gear knob, this 628 CSi has the following features: power steering, central locking, 4 electric windows, air conditioning and a cassette radio. All instruments, indicators and switches in the interior of the BMW can be certified as functioning flawlessly.

In the middle of the field of view is clearly visible to the driver the speed display with integrated speedometer, on which 44,970 kilometers can be read. On the basis of an available – partially maintained – checkbook as well as the various existing invoices and former TÜV documents, the total mileage of this 628 CSi can be documented.

The engine compartment of the E24 is impeccably preserved: Here, a 2.8-litre in-line six-cylinder naturally aspirated engine ensures a power output of 184 hp – the individual gears are inserted crisply via a manual 4-speed transmission, typical of BMW. In June 2022, a final maintenance took place: According to the seller, a large service was carried out.

Very good in terms of condition and the low overall mileage of the BMW correspondingly clean is the underside. The timeless shape, an elegant colour combination and the short kilometres make this 628 CSi particularly interesting. Nowhere can even a little rust be found, which would tarnish the good overall impression of the coupé. This model from BMW offers both enthusiasts and lovers of a uniquely designed sports coupé the best conditions to feel the proverbial "joy of driving".
