    Technik: Das unter der Bezeichnung „Samba“, im englischen Sprachraum als „Microbus Deluxe“ bekannte Achtsitzer-Sondermodell (offizieller Name im VW-Programm) bzw. Typ 24S (später Typ 24G, ab 1954 Typ 241) wurde auf der ersten Nachkriegs-IAA im April 1951 in Frankfurt vorgestellt. Es hatte Chromradkappen und ein poliertes VW-Emblem auf der Front; bis Ende 1951 eine dreifarbige, danach eine zweifarbig oder selten einfarbige Lackierung. Die verschiedenfarbigen Bereiche wurden durch Chromleisten getrennt. Zur Ausstattung gehörten auch ein Faltschiebedach über dem Passagierbereich. Entgegen vielen anderslautenden Veröffentlichungen gehörte ein Radio nicht zur Serienausstattung des Sambas. Zwar war im sambaspezifischen Armaturenbrett im Gegensatz zu den anderen Bussen eine Öffnung für den Radio-Einbau, die aber ab Werk mit einer aufwendigen zweifarbigen Abdeckplatte mit einem VW-Zeichen (das Werk nahm hier einfach das vordere Haubenemblem des Käfers) verschlossen war. Ab dem 10. März 1953 war eine hintere Stoßstange montiert, welche die anderen T1-Varianten erst ab dem 21. Dezember 1954 erhielten. Der acht- bis zwölfsitzige Bus hatte 23 Fenster. Eine Heckklappe zum Innenraum gab es bis zum Modellwechsel 1955 nur als Mehrausstattung gegen Aufpreis. Die beiden hinteren Eck- und die acht Dachfenster waren anfangs aus 4 mm starkem Plexiglas gefertigt. Das Heckfenster war größer als bei den anderen T1. Der Samba hatte ein Armaturenbrett in Fahrzeugbreite, das 1955 in modifizierter Form in die Serienfertigung übernommen wurde. Der Zugang zur hinteren Sitzreihe wurde durch eine wegklappbare Rückenlehne des rechten Sitzes der mittleren Reihe erleichtert. Die hinteren Eckfenster wichen ab August 1963 einer geänderten Heckklappe mit einem größeren Fenster. Bei Modellen mit vorderen Einzelsitzen war das Reserverad links über dem Motorraum angebracht.
