Model history

The Mercedes-Benz convertible of the 124 model series, introduced in 1991 as the 300 CE-24V, was advertised as a comfortable four-seater convertible that could be used all year round. Initially only available with a 3.0-liter in-line six-cylinder engine (24 valves), further engines followed from 1993, including a 3.2-liter six-cylinder with 220 hp and a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 136 hp. The models were equipped with a 5-speed manual gearbox or optional 5-speed automatic transmission, driven via the rear wheels. One safety feature was the automatically extending roll bar. Production ended in 1997 with around 34,000 vehicles built, including 11,463 E 320 Cabrio.
