Like every Mercedes-Benz S-Class before it, the W 140, which was launched in 1991 as the successor to the much-loved S-Class of the W 126 series, was intended to set new standards. At the time, the W 140 offered everything engineers could think of: Space in abundance, top-class safety technology, powerful engines ranging from six- to twelve-cylinder - but also such trifles as electrically extendable dipsticks on the rear fenders for easier parking.
