Model history

The BMW 8 Series (E31) was built exclusively as a coupe from 1989 onwards and was positioned as the successor to the 6 Series (E24) – larger, more technically complex, and significantly more expensive. The design was by Klaus Kapitza and was visually based on the lines of the BMW M1. Technically related to the 7 Series of the time, the 8 Series combined V12 engines with luxurious equipment and modern suspension. Despite innovative features, commercial success remained limited – around 30,600 units were produced by 1999.

LG Tom
