In 1977, the 323i was introduced as a further model variant of the E21 series from BMW. Equipped with a powerful 2.3-liter six-cylinder engine, the 323i offered impressive performance and agile handling. One of its most distinctive features was its sporty design, which embodied the typical style of the BMW 3 Series. With the 323i, BMW strengthened its position in the market for compact and powerful vehicles, which later proved to be an extremely important step. By 1983, almost 137,100 of these had been produced.
