Model history:

The 944, first presented at the IAA in 1981, seemed like a vision of the future. But that was exactly the job of the new front-engine generation: ushering in modernity at Porsche and retiring the elf rear-engine concept. The outcome of the story is known. Under the hood of the basic model 944 works a halved V8 from the Porsche 928. Over time, the displacement grew to just under three liters. Two balance shafts ensure that this engine runs as silky as a six-cylinder. The transaxle design ensures an almost perfectly balanced weight distribution of 48:52 (front:rear). The body design was also well received by customers: the new front-engine Porsche broke all in-house sales records at the time.

Engine

The in-line four-cylinder engine with a displacement of 2.5 litres and an output of 165 hp is made entirely of light metal. Two parallel balance shafts that run counter to the engine ensure the well-known smoothness of the four-cylinder engine. Via a 5-speed transmission, which is installed on the rear axle (transaxle), the power of the engine is transmitted to the rear wheels. A final service was completed in May 2022, the timing belt was renewed according to the seller statements about 5,000 kilometers ago.

Subsoil:

In view of the overall mileage of this vehicle, the underbody can be attested to a well-preserved condition.
