Technik: Der Porsche 944 erschien in den Versionen 944, 944 S, 944 S2, 944 Turbo und – in begrenzter Stückzahl – als Topmodell 944 Turbo S. Die Versionen unterschieden sich in der Motorleistung, der Ausstattung und dem Preis. Alle Versionen kennzeichnet und eint das Transaxlesystem, das es vor dem 924 nicht bei Porsche gegeben hatte: Der Motor sitzt mit seinem Schwerpunkt leicht hinter der Vorderachse, wohingegen die (ursprünglich für den Audi 100 entwickelte) Einheit aus Getriebe und Achsantrieb im Heck des Fahrzeugs liegt. Verbunden werden Motor und Getriebe durch eine in einem Stahlrohr laufende Welle. Das ergibt zusammen mit dem großen Kraftstofftank eine ausgewogene Gewichtsverteilung von 48 : 52 (Front : Heck) und dadurch ein neutrales Fahrverhalten und gute Traktion. LG Tom
