Parallel to the basic model, the 914 with a 1.7-liter four-cylinder engine, Porsche offered the 914/6: It was primarily intended to appeal to Porsche-affine customers, while the smaller version was intended to attract more sporty VW drivers. Accordingly, the 914/6 received a six-cylinder boxer engine. This was the 2.0-liter version that had been in service in the 911 T up to that point. While the engine in the "T" received twice in a row more displacement, it remained with the "/6" built until 1972 with 2.0-liter displacement and the two triple carburetors. In total, just over 3,300 copies of the 914/6 rolled off the production line.
