Model history:

The SL of the R 107 model series was Mercedes-Benz's longest-built roadster – it remained in the range for 18 years. After a first facelift in 1980, the second major revision came in 1985. The majority of SL roadsters were exported, especially to the USA. Especially for this market, there was a 560 SL built in a quantity of almost 50,000 units: This was only slightly weaker compared to the European top model 500 SL, but had a huge torque. The 560 SL was very popular in the USA, which was also proven by the sales figures: As a special feature, this top version of the series was the only model to feature knee impact protection and side impact protection with reinforcements in the doors.

Now a Mercedes-Benz 560 SL from 1987 is offered in this auction, which was imported from the USA and recently subjected to a restoration by the company SL Classic. Only 1 holder is known for this roadster with the VIN WDBBA48D6HA073723. Although no checkbook for the Mercedes-Benz can be presented, at least a CarFax is available, which illuminates the history of the R 107 in the USA. The 560 SL is already in possession of H approval and the last TÜV will run until November 2024.

Exterior colour/varnish/body:

This 560 SL, which is offered for auction here, bears black plain paint as a paint colour - various chrome trim elements on the car stand out in particular. Missing parts on the exterior can apparently not be detected and deviations from the original condition are obviously not present. This Mercedes-Benz Roadster was completely repainted in the course of its restoration, but the seller can completely rule out an accident. In addition to the body, the soft top of the R 107 is also black: it has no cracks in the fabric or even in the plastic and is therefore in very good shape.

Exterior rims/brakes/chassis:

Goodyear tyres - which have recently been added and therefore have sufficient tread - are mounted on the original "manhole cover alloy rims" from Mercedes-Benz. During the restoration work, according to the seller, the brakes came new, inconsistencies in the area of the chassis are not to be enumerated, according to him.

Interior:

Black is the main colour in the extremely well-groomed interior of this 560 SL - the dark wood elements found in the centre console and dashboard provide a slight contrast in the interior, which is equipped with leather seats. After deciphering the optional equipment codes, this Mercedes-Benz has the following features, among others: exterior temperature display, airbag in the steering wheel, heated exterior mirrors, burglar and anti-theft alarm system (EDW), armrest foldable front, automatic climate control, Radio Becker Mexico Grand Prix electronics. Mileage

After consultation with the seller, this R 107 is said to have run about 70,800 kilometers. Although there is no more checkbook for the car, but at least the story can be traced in the USA on the basis of an existing CarFax.

Engine

5.6-liter displacement offers the V8 engine, which sits in the front of the vehicle and transmits its 300 hp via 4-speed automatic transmission to the rear wheels. A final service took place in November 2022.
