Mercedes Benz W113 (1967)

Vehicle description
Mercedes-Benz also provided many technical highlights for the second SL generation, which soon became groundbreaking for other manufacturers. A sensation, for example, was the soft top, which can be operated effortlessly by hand. The Mercedes engineers also used innovative elements in safety technology: the 230 SL was the world's first sports car to feature a "safety body with a rigid passenger compartment and crumple zones at the front and rear". The 230 SL was followed at the end of 1966 by the 250 SL with a 2.5-litre in-line six-cylinder engine, which received its mixture via intake manifold injection and achieved more torque than the 230 SL. Only about 5,000 units of the 250 SL of the 113 series were produced.

The car to be auctioned in this auction is a Mercedes-Benz 250 SL of the W 113 series from 1967. This roadster is an Italian model that a US soldier stationed in Italy took with him to San Diego in 1999. In 2014, this 250 SL was then imported to Germany. In 2017, a complete restoration took place – the total investments amount to over € 170,000, according to the seller. Matching numbers are given, how many owners the roadster has in total is no longer known. The chassis number of the Mercedes is 11304310001579, a valuation report from 2018 is available: In it, the pagoda was awarded the condition grade 1- and a market value of 190,000 € was determined.

The whitewall tires in size 195/75 have sufficient profile – these are mounted on original 14-inch steel rims with chrome hubcaps. In terms of brakes, no deficits can be listed, the axle parts were sandblasted and repainted, all wear parts and the rubber bushings were replaced. The seller also mentions that – since this pagoda is an EU model – the 250 SL has the original German rear axle.

In terms of paint, the 250 SL in the original Mercedes colour "Tunis beige Metallic" is in apparently very good shape. In the course of the restoration work, the entire body was painted and repainted. Doors, rear lids and the bonnet have unobjectionable gap dimensions and close properly, the chrome bumpers as well as the entire chrome applications on the car present themselves shiny and without complaints. Rust is obviously not found on the body of the 250 SL, neuralgic zones such as in this model, among other things, the wheel arches, end tips and the rear plate are free of any corrosion. External modifications deviating from the original state of the work are not recognizable.

The interior of the 250 SL has also undergone a restoration: In combination with the exterior colour, you can see a well-harmonized brown in the interior as well as a black impact pot steering wheel which is known from the tail fin – in addition, there is plenty of chrome trim. The interior carpet is also in brown like the full leather seats. The leather of the seats is still perfectly intact, the door panels show up without damage and the leathered dashboard has no cracks. The most important features include power steering, a telescopic antenna, a wind deflector and a radio "Becker Mexico".

Chrome-framed instruments are in the driver's field of vision, the five-digit speedometer shows a read mileage of about 48,000 kilometers. All instruments have a flawless function.

A beefy-looking in-line six-cylinder engine with a displacement of 2.5 litres and 150 hp is evident at the sight of the extremely beautiful engine compartment: the engine has also undergone a revision and converted to unleaded petrol. The exhaust system, all lines and all cables were also new. Shifting is via 5-speed ZF manual transmission: This has also been completely overhauled.

As with the entire car, rust is not an issue at all on the underbody of the 250 SL, on the underside you can also see the effort of the restoration work. Apparently, there are no inconsistencies, the condition of the underside of the Mercedes-Benz can be rated as extremely good. The underbody has been sealed with wax. Created by designer Paul Bracq, the timeless classic icon W 113 convinces with its sporty luxurious appearance. This completely restored 250 SL from 1967 enables enjoyable travel with a dash of sportiness: country roads and good weather mean pure driving pleasure in the 250 SL.

Wahnsinn…

Antenne,Fahrersitz,Scheibengummi,Verdeckkasten -Wellig, usw.

MfG
