Vehicle description

BMW is one of the best-known automotive brands in the world and is today the most important producer of luxury-class vehicles in Germany alongside Mercedes and Audi. In the turbulent 1960s, when the integration of the legendary "New Class" succeeded in saving the group, BMW did not have its own vehicle in this category for a few years. The 3200 S, known as the "Baroque Angel", was now considered obsolete and it was not until the introduction of the BMW E3 in 1968 that this gap could be successfully closed. The new "Great Class", from which the later 7 Series emerged, was available in different versions with different engine power, with the BMW 2500 and BMW 2800 models initially being introduced.

In this auction, a very well preserved white BMW 2500 of the E3 series from 1973 is offered. After its manufacture, the vehicle was exported to Italy, where it was registered for road traffic for the first time. It has been owned by two owners in recent decades and has remained accident-free to this day. Matching numbers are available for the vehicle with the identity number 2048181, as well as a checkbook that contains the essential facts about the history of the BMW 2500 despite some gaps. The vehicle has been certified for the use of H license plates since 2016 and has been rated 2+ in a recent Classic Analytics report. The elegant sedan is fully roadworthy, but currently not registered and will be handed over to the new owner with a new TÜV and two sets of keys.

...

The BMW 2500 is painted in alpine white and has no dents, dents or scratches. The color has been renewed in some places in the past and has now taken on an age-related pleasant patina. There is no major paint damage to the body, which has been preserved in its original condition, and the chrome-plated components such as the bumper, trims and headlight surrounds are also in very good condition.

...

Original BMW rims with chrome-plated hubcaps are mounted on the vehicle, which fit very nicely to the exterior of the vehicle. The Vredestein tyres in Giugiaro design underline the sporty character of the BMW 2500 and, like the technically revised brakes, are very well suited for further use. No modifications were made to the chassis and its components, and no defects or damage were found during the last service in March 2021.

...

Dark colours dominate the interior of the BMW 2500, with the grey armchairs covered with blue velour and the fittings shining in an elegant black. A combination of leather and tile was used on the side doors, and high-quality wooden elements were used to design the gear stick knob and some cockpit areas. Previously used as a non-smoking car, the sedan has the equipment typical of the BMW 2500, with a radio offering the best travel entertainment. There is no damage to the interior and there are only slight signs of use in the furniture, the sky and the fittings.

...

The vehicle has covered just over 90,000 kilometres in almost 50 years, which is due to the fact that the historic BMW E3 was used for exhibitions for many years. All information is comprehensible with the help of the existing documents, as well as the functionality of all instruments can be confirmed.

...

The BMW 2500 has a six-cylinder in-line engine with a displacement of 2.5 litres, which generates an output of 150 hp (110 KW) at 6,000 rpm. With a 4-speed transmission from ZF, the vehicle accelerates from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 10.4 seconds and can reach a top speed of 190 km/h. During the last inspection in spring 2021, no defects in the engine or technology could be detected, the underbody had already been blasted dry ice after re-import in 2016 and, like the rest of the components, has thus been preserved in a very good, largely rust-free condition.

...

The elegant sedan has undergone several technical inspections since 2015, including revising the brake calipers and renewing the lines and seals. Carburetors, ignition and valves were readjusted and in the course of this spark plugs, ignition contacts and liquids were submerged. Since then, the vehicle has been in a collection most of the time and has rarely been moved, so further repairs should not be necessary at the moment. As one of the forerunners of the 7 Series, the BMW 2500 has a high historical significance for the Bavarian company. For the first time since the end of the war, the automobile manufacturer was able to present a full-size vehicle with a modern look, with the forward-inclined front end remaining typical for BMW vehicles until the 1990s. The dynamic character of the BMW 2500 was a major reason for the sales success of the model, of which only slightly more than 200 can still be found on German roads today. The new owner thus acquires not only an elegant, historic limousine, but also a rarity rare in this state of preservation.
