In 1965, Burkard Bovensiepen began classic tuning under the name Alpina-Büromaschinen: carburetor systems, spoilers, chassis parts for the BMW 02 models and the BMW 5 Series built from 1972 onwards. Alpina became a manufacturer and bold pioneer in technology in 1978 with the legendary B7 Turbo models and the B6 2.8. An Alpina version called the B10 3.5 was also launched based on the second series of the 5 Series, the E28. The B10 3.5 E28 was built on the basis of the 535i, with the six-cylinder engine tuned by Alpina to deliver 261 hp. In 1983, Alpina was granted manufacturer status. The Buchloe-based company has long since matured into a globally active and recognized "manufacturer of exclusive automobiles" based on BMW models. To this day, there is close cooperation with BMW.
