Model history:

At its premiere in 1971, it was not foreseeable that this model would be one of the most popular classic cars in Germany in the future: we are talking about the Mercedes-Benz SL of the 107 model series. With a construction period of 18 years, this is the longest built model series from Mercedes-Benz. It was not until 1989 that the successor R129 came onto the market.

With the broadband H4 headlights and the large fluted taillights, the 107 established a new design line at Mercedes-Benz, which was style-defining for many other models of the brand with the star in the 70s.

General information about the vehicle:

In this auction a 280 SL from 1977 can be purchased.

The SL with chassis number WDB10704212003090 is currently in sixth hands and was imported from the Netherlands in the past.

An H license plate is already in place and the next main inspection is not scheduled until August 2024. In addition, according to the seller, the car is accident-free.

All repair work was carried out by the specialist workshop Retro Classic in Selmsdorf. All invoices and detailed photo documentation are available.

An existing valuation report from Classic-Data attests to the condition of the vehicle of 2+.

Exterior colour/varnish/body:

The SL is painted in blue metallic and has a blue soft top. The soft top and also the plastic windows are free of cracks and holes. A hardtop in body colour is also included. According to the seller, the hood and trunk lid have already been repainted. Modifications to the exterior deviating from the original condition are not to be found. Exterior rims/brakes/chassis:

New Falken tyres are mounted on the steel rims with the classic Mercedes chrome hubcaps. The brakes also still have 70 - 90% of the new condition.

On the chassis side, there is also nothing to complain about.

Interior:

The interior is also predominantly blue. A three-spoke leather steering wheel from Nardi was installed as well as a wooden storage box under the center armrest. The air conditioning, which was charged at that time, is currently not in operation. Other optional extras include cruise control, power windows and central locking.

Mileage:

The odometer in the middle of the round instruments only shows a mileage of 95,000 kilometers, which can be traced according to the seller.

Engine:

The high-revving six-cylinder in-line engine with two overhead camshafts generates 185 hp from a displacement of 2.8 litres. The optional four-speed torque converter automatic transmission is installed as transmission. The last service was carried out in December 2022.

Who is this car for?

The R107 is not for nothing the third most popular classic car in Germany. In addition to the longevity typical of the brand at that time, another reason is the good supply of spare parts. A classic colour combination, the exceptionally low mileage and the good condition speak for this 280 SL from 1977.
