    Technik: Im Oktober 1981 wurde das Coupé der Baureihe 126 (C 126) vorgestellt. Es trägt als Modellbezeichnung das Kürzel „SEC“ (S-Klasse-Einspritzmotor-Coupé). Die Bodengruppe des SEC stammt prinzipiell von der Limousine, wenngleich um 85 Millimeter gekürzt. Der Radstand ist damit 30 Millimeter länger als bei der Vorgängerbaureihe. Zur Kompensation der fehlenden B-Säulen ist die Dachrahmenstruktur verbessert, und die A-Säulen sind mit eingeschweißten hochfesten Rohren versehen. Damit entsprechen auch die Coupés dem Sicherheitsstandard der S-Klasse-Limousinen. Neben der Coupé-Karosserie unterscheidet sich der SEC durch Details von der Limousine: Statt Breitbandscheinwerfer mit nebeneinander liegenden Haupt- und Nebelscheinwerfern hat das Coupé schmalere Hauptscheinwerfer; die Nebelscheinwerfer sind in die Stoßstange integriert. Dadurch kann der Kühlergrill breiter sein und in die Motorhaube einbezogen werden. Der freistehende obere Mercedes-Stern wird durch ein großes Stern-Emblem im Kühlergrill ersetzt. Die Außentürgriffe liegen über großen Kunststoffschalen. Die Chromleiste am unteren Rand der Kofferraumhaube, die bei der Limousine nur den Bereich zwischen den Heckleuchten ausfüllt, ist beim Coupé breiter ausgeführt und reicht bis in die hinteren Kotflügel. Durch die fehlenden B-Säulen und die auch hinten fast voll versenkbaren Seitenfenster wird eine große seitliche Öffnung des Fahrzeugs ermöglicht. Im Fond verfügt das Coupé über zwei Einzelsitze. Da Coupé-Varianten in der Mercedes-Hierarchie traditionell über den Limousinen angesiedelt sind, war auch der SEC teurer und besser ausgestattet als die Limousinen sowie nur mit den V8-Motoren erhältlich. Der C 126 wurde bis Ende 1991 gebaut und 1992 durch den C 140 ersetzt. LG Tom
