Model history
The first-generation Audi R8 (Type 42) was introduced in 2006 and is based on the technology of the Le Mans race car of the same name. With its aluminum body and mid-engine, it set new standards in the sports car class. By 2014, over 26,000 units had rolled off the production line. The R8 is particularly appreciated for its precise handling, lightweight construction, and—in rare cases—manual transmission.
