The Mercedes-Benz W180 series was produced from 1954 to 1959 and is one of the classic "Ponton" models with a self-supporting body. The 220 a marked the entry into the series, followed by the more powerful 220 S in 1956. Coupé and cabriolet versions were added to the range in mid-1956. The successor, the W128 with fuel injection engine, appeared in 1958 and remained in production until 1960.
