Model history

With the Mondial, Ferrari attempted to create a sports car for every market in the world. The shape was created by in-house designer Pininfarina, which made traditionalists breathe a sigh of relief, but its stretched design polarized. The first Mondial series, launched in 1980, was not exactly lavishly motorized with 214 hp. In 1982, Ferrari added a 240 hp four-valve version called Quattrovalvole (QV), which was then also available as a convertible for the first time. In 1985, the Mondial 3.2 followed with more displacement and 270 hp, and finally in 1989 the finale with the completely new Mondial T (transversale). The word transversale referred to the transversely mounted gearbox; the engine was now mounted longitudinally.
