Model history

With the Porsche 928, the sports car manufacturer broke with previous conventions in the 1970s: instead of a rear engine and air cooling, it opted for a newly developed, water-cooled V8 front engine with transaxle design – i.e., with the transmission on the rear axle. This combination ensured balanced weight distribution and a high level of driving comfort. The design – with recessed pop-up headlights, rounded, modern lines, and a collision-resistant rear end – was ahead of its time and remained virtually unchanged throughout its production run from 1977 to 1995. Today, the GTS variant at the end of the series in particular stands for the technical and stylistic maturity of this innovative Porsche series.

LG Tom
