Model history

The VW Type 181, also known colloquially as the "Kübel", was originally developed for the military and produced from 1969. Its robust design and simple technology made it a popular emergency vehicle that was used in many countries. The Type 181 was known for its versatility and off-road capability, which also made it popular with civilian users. The technical components were based on proven assemblies from other Volkswagen models, which kept development and maintenance costs low. A unique selling point was the ability to completely remove the doors and fold down the windshield.

LG Tom
