Model history

With the Mondial, Ferrari aimed to create a global sports car. The design by in-house designer Pininfarina met with approval from traditionalists, while its elongated shape polarized opinion. The first Mondial series, introduced in 1980, was not overly powerful with 214 hp. In 1982, Ferrari presented the four-valve version called Quattrovalvole (QV) with 240 hp, which was also available as a convertible for the first time. The Mondial 3.2 from 1985 had more displacement and produced 270 hp. Finally, in 1989, the Mondial T (transversale) came as the final version (3.4 l with 300 hp), whereby transversale referred to the transversely mounted gearbox, while the engine was arranged longitudinally.
