Model history

Eagerly awaited by many customers, BMW presented the first 3 Series Convertible at the IAA 1985, around 15 years after the discontinuation of the 02 series. From then on, the open-top mid-size car joined the coupé and saloon as the third body variant in the range of the second generation of the 3 Series with the factory code E30. Initially, the 3 Series Cabriolet was offered exclusively in the 325i variant, with the 320i and 318i later rounding off the convertible's engine range. From 1988, the M3 Cabriolet, the top model in the series, was also offered in an open-top version.
