Model history:

The VW company was founded in 1937 and had only a few models in the first decades. The VW Beetle dominated production in Wolfsburg, and during the economic miracle two more successful products were added, the VW Bulli and the VW Type 3. In a changing automotive world, this was too little for the group, and from the mid-1970s onwards, a whole generation of new VW vehicles came onto the market one after the other. The smallest model was the VW Polo I, which was produced between 1975 and 1981 and was technically in large parts the same as the initially somewhat better equipped Audi 50.

General information about the vehicle:

In this auction, a VW Polo I (Type 86) is offered, which was manufactured in 1980 and first registered in August of the same year. The original color of the vehicle was red, today the little gem shines in a friendly bright yellow. The history of the vehicle, which is now over 40 years old, is difficult to trace, as workshop invoices, MOT protocols and other documents are largely missing. For this reason, there is uncertainty about the exact number of previous owners, and it is also impossible to say whether the vehicle with ID no. 86A0147459 actually has matching numbers. The well preserved, but not accident-free VW Polo I is allowed to carry H-plates as a historic vehicle and will be handed over to the new owner with a set of keys after passing the main inspection.

Exterior color/paint/bodywork:

The vehicle was red when delivered, but was completely painted in a light yellow color by a specialist workshop some time ago. It is probably the color VW J1A, more exact information would have to be obtained from the painter or VW dealer.

body was previously completely restored by a master body builder, external defects such as dents, scratches or paint damage could not be found during the inspection.

Exterior Rims / Brakes / Chassis:

The original steel rims are mounted on the VW Polo I, which present themselves as the 2-year-old Barum Brillantis tires in good condition. The chassis has been preserved with all components in their original form and has no defects. The brakes are fully functional and can be described as new.

Interior:

Inside the little yellow runabout is equipped with leather seats, which like the rest of the interior show no damage and hardly any signs of use. The cockpit is in good condition and appears very well maintained. The equipment has remained unchanged and includes, as usual for the VW Polo Type 86, the obligatory wood decor in the dashboard area, a radio and a rear wiper.

This value can be read on the speedometer disc, however, due to missing documents, it cannot be said with certainty whether this reading corresponds to reality. In any case, all controls function perfectly, and there are no known signs of failure on the instrument panel.

Engine

The VW Polo I is equipped with a 1.1-liter engine that produces 50 hp and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h within 18s. The dynamic small car can reach a top speed of 141 km/h with its front-wheel drive and uses a fully synchronized four-speed transmission for transmission. The vehicle is in good technical condition. No defects were found on the engine, transmission and all other components during the last service in August 2021. The underbody was completely overhauled by a specialist workshop, so that also in this area all components are fully functional and almost corrosion-free. The vehicle has been completely restored in large parts and put into a technically very good condition.

historic Polo has been moved very little since that time, so no further repairs are necessary at the moment.

The small VW Polo I is a true classic of VW vehicle history and is rarely found in this state of preservation.
