Model history:

The model variety of the Mercedes-Benz "dash eight" (W 114/W 115) is unique for its time: All models added together result in a proud 19 different versions. Launched in 1968 (therefore called "/8"), the elegant coupé was added just 1 year later. It debuted as the 250 CE with 150 hp and D-Jetronic. A year before the big 73 facelift, which among other things brought a wider radiator grille and fluted taillights, the 280 models came with a twin-cam inline-six engine. Just over 67,000 of the dash-eight coupes were built. Differently than the sedan, which was produced together with the W 123 still another year, the last dash eight Coupé ran out already 1976.

In this auction a Mercedes Benz 250 CE /8 comes, which was registered 1971 for the first time in Germany to the traffic and up to now only 3 vehicle owners shows. The chassis number of this coupé is 114022 12-018542. The Mercedes-Benz does not have an H-registration plate, it does not have a valid MOT at the moment and there is no checkbook for the vehicle. It is known that the 250 CE has already undergone a partial restoration. Lately, the current owner moved this Mercedes-Benz with a red classic car license plate (07-er license plate).

Exterior color/paint/bodywork:

Visually, this /8 coupe does not appear perfect according to the seller: A repainting took place 25 years ago, but various light dust inclusions and paint runs are visible on the body of the Mercedes-Benz. Modifications deviating from the original condition are apparently not present and the chrome on the exterior is in decent shape and, after consultation with the seller, only needs a little polishing to make it shine again nicely. An accident-free condition can be confirmed by the seller.

Exterior Rims/Brakes/Chassis:

According to the seller, the tires of the coupe should be replaced, as the tires are 25 years old and already show porous spots. The rims are original Fuchs aluminum rims in silver. Although the current owner of the Mercedes-Benz gives the brakes a condition rating of 50-70%, he believes that the braking system should be inspected to be on the safe side. In the area of the chassis, the current owner of the car is not aware of any gross inconsistencies.

Interior:

Blue like the exterior color of this coupe, the interior with its leather seats also presents itself in color. The equipment of this 250 CE includes a sunroof, power steering and a cassette radio. Considering the vehicle's age of now over 50 years, the interior can be said to be in decent shape - there is apparently no gross damage or wild signs of wear. Mileage:

The 3 round chrome-rimmed gauges in the instrument cluster of this /8 Coupé have been supplemented by an oil temperature gauge and a tachometer. The 5-digit speedometer shows a mileage of 2,982 kilometers. How much this 250 CE has actually covered since its first registration in 1971 can no longer be traced due to missing documents. All instruments and displays are fully functional.

Engine:

The individual gears are engaged via a mechanical 5-speed transmission and the power of the 6 cylinders is transmitted to the road via the rear axle. According to the seller, the 5-speed transmission was rebuilt and in the course of this an original exchange engine from Mercedes-Benz was installed. In 2022 a new fuel pump was installed. According to the seller, the technology of this coupe is OK and only a fluid change as well as an inspection needs to be done so that the car can go on long trips again.

Underbody:

According to the seller, welding work was done on the /8 coupe in 1993 - no restoration work has been done since then. The seller also mentions that this car has not been taken out in the rain or wet for over 20 years and has always had a dark as well as dry parking spot. Although according to the seller, this 250 CE is not a museum car in terms of condition, it is an honest classic car with patina and rare 5-speed manual transmission that just needs some affection so that it can be used to the fullest by its future owner in all respects.
