    Technik: In Puebla Mexico lief der Käfer von einem besonderen Export-Band, das nicht nur auf die ständig wechselnden Sonderausstattungen eingestellt war, sondern auch einer zusätzlichen Qualitätskontrolle unterlag. Die Fahrzeuge wurden anschließend per Schiff von Mexiko nach Emden verfrachtet, wo sie nach ihrer Ankunft im dortigen Volkswagenwerk von VW-Arbeitern, die ehedem die heimischen Käfer am Emder Fließband zusammengeschraubt hatten, nochmals einer genauen Eingangsprüfung, Endkontrolle und Schluss-Aufbereitung unterzogen wurden. Die Kundendienst-Werkstatt Emden führte anschließend notwendige Umbauten an den Fahrzeugen in die jeweiligen länderspezifischen Ausstattungen für Europa durch. Dort wurden auch eventuelle Mehrausstattungen, wie Radios, Kopfstützen und Radzierringe montiert. Etwa 30 % der in Mexiko eingebauten Käfer-Teile stammten aus deutscher Produktion und trugen nach wie vor das Siegel Made in Germany. Die Modelle aus Mexiko wiesen gegenüber dem letzten deutschen Käfer nur geringe Unterschiede wie eine kleinere Heckscheibe und die fehlende Innentasche in der Fahrertür auf. Das letzte von 330.281 gebauten Käfer-Cabrios lief bei Karmann in Osnabrück am 10. Januar 1980 vom Band. Es war lange Zeit das erfolgreichste Cabrio und wurde 1979 vom ersten Golf Cabriolet abgelöst.
