BMW 600 extremely rarely in excellent condition (1958)

BMW has developed many passenger car models in its long history. Today, the company is particularly known for vehicles of the upper class, but in the years after the 2nd World War, the small cars of the Bavarian manufacturer were very popular. The name BMW Isetta is a popular symbol of the time of the economic miracle, while the BMW 600 developed from it is particularly popular with collectors. After all, the small, compact vehicle is a real car, while the even smaller twin sister Isetta was called a scooter mobile.

In this auction, a BMW 600 from 1958 is offered. The red paint gives the oldie youthful liveliness, overall the vehicle is in an amazingly good general condition and hardly seems to have aged. The small car completed its young drive in December 1958, how many owners used it in the following years is no longer completely comprehensible. A checkbook is not available, but numerous documents provide information about the history of the vehicle, which was acquired by a Danish collector in 2014. The offered BMW 600 is fully roadworthy and approved for road traffic until August 2022, after its transfer, the accident-free classic car would have to be presented again to the TÜV. The car, which is largely in its original condition, has matching numbers and is passed with a key set. A desired certification as a historic vehicle should only be a formality for this BMW 600 with the VIN 120653.

The original colour scheme gives the small classic car enormous liveliness, especially since the paintwork in Japanese red and light grey is in good condition. Minor signs of wear only exist in sensitive areas such as sills or window frames, dents or dents are not present on the externally unchanged vehicle. The vehicle is polished to a high gloss and shows comparatively low signs of corrosion, only in typical places such as hinges, screws, welds and the exterior mirror discoloration can be detected.

Original rims and hubcaps from BMW are mounted on the car, which, like the wheels from Duro, are in good condition. The slight rust infestation in this area could be treated in the near future, but there is nothing to complain about the functionality. No modifications have been made to the chassis, overall the small BMW presents itself in this area as well as at the time of its delivery.

The interior of the historic BMW 600 is equipped with dark red leather armchairs, which have taken on a pleasant patina since their installation and are somewhat darkened. The interior doors are also lined with leather, the sky and the footwell equipped with robust fabric present themselves in a discreet light grey. The equipment is as spartan as usual, in addition to some controls and the spare parts compartment, the speedometer with kilomer stand is the only display in the vehicle. The interior shows only typical signs of use and slight corrosion on some metal elements, damage is recognizably absent.

The vehicle has rarely been moved over longer distances and has therefore only covered 1,531 miles over the past few decades. The few instruments in the vehicle work without restriction, so that the BMW 600 is roadworthy and roadworthy.

The car has a curb weight of about 550 kg, so that the gasoline engine with 0.6 liters of displacement and 19 hp is completely sufficient for locomotion. The BMW reaches a top speed of up to 103 km/h and uses a 4-speed transmission that is flanged to the engine. The last service on the vehicle was carried out in spring 2022, whereby neither the technical components nor the underbody could be found to be defective. The exhaust system is also intact, but the condition should be kept in mind there.

The vehicle has been continuously serviced in recent years and has only recently undergone an extensive inspection. At the moment, no repairs are necessary, but an exchange of wearing parts cannot be ruled out for the future.


The BMW 600 offered presents itself in an amazingly good, faithfully preserved overall condition. It is basically suitable for everyday use, but should rather be a vehicle for special occasions. Lovers of classic cars will appreciate the value of this small car from Bavaria, especially since it presents itself in the dynamic red-gray paint as a real feast for the eyes.
