Mercedes Benz G-Klasse (1989)

Vehicle description
Originally developed as a military vehicle, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class rolled off the assembly line in Graz, Austria, from 1979 under the Steyr-Daimler-Puch joint label. At the beginning, the G was only sparsely motorized and sparsely equipped. The most powerful petrol engine of the W 460 series was the 2.8-litre in-line six-cylinder, while the most powerful diesel engine was an in-line five-cylinder with 3.0 litres and produced 88 hp. However, ever newer variants and product revisions ensured great interest from customers. An automatic transmission, the multiple changes to the interior and more powerful engines made the G-model increasingly attractive to private individuals.

Now it is possible to bid for a Mercedes-Benz GD 250 as a long station car from 1989. The first registration of this G-Class with the FIN WDB46033817065141 took place in Germany – How many owners of the car has in total is not known to the current owner, as there is no exact history of the vehicle. It is only known that the penultimate owners were based in Lower Saxony and the last owner is the wife of the current owner. 2 keys to the 250 GD still exist, the TÜV runs until January 2023 and an H-approval already ennobles this G-Class. Whether matching numbers are given, the seller can not say with certainty. Also worth mentioning is an existing short evaluation of the company Classic Data from 2021, which attested to the 250 GD the condition grade 2. Since the acquisition of the GD 250 by the current owner in 2018, a total of over €22,000 has flowed into the vehicle. All invoices for the work performed are retrievable.

Originally, this G-Class had left the factory in the color "cream white", over the years a complete repainting of the original color took place and the Mercedes-Benz got a black paint dress as the body color. According to the owner, a complete repainting of the black paint was carried out years ago. Since the purchase in 2018, the current owner had given the car until autumn 2019 to a master workshop, which had replaced various parts on the vehicle for just under 6,500 €. In the area of the body, some new sheets came and various areas have been repaired: Almost 4,500 € were invested for this. The seller describes the current condition of the exterior as good – only slight stone chips and a small dent can be found on the body. An accident damage in March 2022 was professionally repaired. Modifications to this 250 GD include the wheel arch extensions.

16-inch Borbet alloy wheels, together with 265/70 tyres, adorn the exterior appearance of this Mercedes-Benz. The tyres can be awarded a tread depth of approx. 7mm, the aluminium rims are in good shape. The brakes are also in good condition: According to the seller, the parking brake has been overhauled. About 1,000 € have flowed into new suspension springs, which were installed in January 2022.

New fabrics have been purchased for the interior of this 250 GD for just under €3,200, and Recaro Specialist M seats with leg rest adjustment, armrest and check pattern have also been added to the G-Class. The interior of this Mercedes-Benz underwent a complete overhaul: the rear bench, door panels, the inside of the tailgate and the seat in the trunk were all re-upholstered with the same Mercedes fabric. The centre console, dashboard and inner spars are completely covered with black leather/imitation leather. Damage to the interior of this 250 GD is not to be lamented. In addition to the partial leather seats with armrest and mechanical lumbar support, the G-Class features the following features: trailer hitch, front and rear differential lock, central locking, electric windows and a Becker-Mexico cassette radio. In the trunk there is still a bench seat. In total, the 250 GD is approved for 7 people. All displays and instruments except the additional display for the oil cooler (currently not connected) work perfectly.

18,110 kilometers can be read from the five-digit speedometer. The total mileage of the car is no longer known, as there is no longer a history. Due to the extensive investments in the 250 GD in recent years – for which all invoices and receipts are available – the vehicle impresses with its completely healthy and well-preserved condition.

The in-line five-cylinder diesel engine, which has a displacement of 2.5 litres, delivers 84 hp – a 5-speed manual transmission is used. Last maintenance work took place in January 2022, current defects in the technology are not known to the seller, according to the seller. As upcoming work in the near future, the current owner indicates the replacement of the shock absorbers. Recent repairs include the renewal of the steering wheel lock at Mercedes-Benz, which was completely rebuilt for over €500.

Although there are occasional rust deposits on the underbody, serious deficits on the underside of this Mercedes-Benz are not to be discovered. The seller also mentions that, in his estimation, of the 250 GD as station wagons, only just over 400 copies were produced according to the type 460,338. In addition, this specimen did not run as a Bundeswehr vehicle, but as a civilian car. Fancy an adventure? – With this Mercedes-Benz 250 GD you are equally well served on- and off-road.
