Model history

The VW T1 was the second vehicle that the Volkswagen Group launched in its long history. The company had previously focused on the Type 1 known as the VW Beetle and was able to successfully expand its product range with the vehicle known as the Bulli. The result was a visually striking minibus that fulfilled a variety of functions and whose cult status as one of the first motorhomes in the following decades almost approached that of the VW Beetle. The Bulli, with its wealth of variants, was enthusiastically received when it was introduced and was replaced by its successor, the VW T2, from 1967, while production continued in Brazil until 1975. The VW T1 is still considered a symbol of individual freedom that can still be seen at many festivals and has lost none of its fascination as a cult car.

General information about the vehicle:

In this auction, a lovingly maintained VW Bulli of the first generation is offered, which rolled off the assembly line in 1973 at the VW plant in Brazil in Sao Paulo. The beautifully preserved minibus has had 2 owners so far and has a fully documented history based on the checkbook. The vehicle transferred to Germany in 2021 has been completely preserved in its basic substance. The VW was extensively restored, whereby care was taken to use only original VW parts. The iconic minibus has Matching Numbers and is entitled to use H license plates, also guaranteed by a TÜV sticker valid until February 2024 unrestricted use. The car is not registered, customs papers and letter from Brazil are available. The car can therefore be registered without any problems. The accident-free vehicle has been rated 1- in an appraisal and is handed over with the original set of keys.

Exterior color/paint/bodywork

The VW T1 1500 presents itself in a classic beige tone typical of the first generation, the distinctive bumpers and the hubcaps were painted white. A large roof rack predestines the vehicle for use as a motorhome, and all components of the vehicle can be classified as fully intact. There are light scratches on one side window, traces of corrosion could only be found in some typical places such as joints and hinges. The body was repainted in the course of the restoration. Exterior Rims/Brakes/Suspension

The VW Bulli uses typical steel rims and nostalgic hubcaps, which look very authentic with their white-beige paint. Semperit tires are used for locomotion, which are in mint condition, as is the brake system, which was renewed in 2021.

chassis has been preserved in its original condition, with some wear parts replaced during the post-import overhaul, thus guaranteeing the functionality of all components.

Interior:

The interior of the historic T1 1500 shines in light colors, with the dark leatherette seating providing a perfect contrast. The nostalgic effect is further enhanced by the light-striped curtains on the side windows. In addition, the white fittings look very well maintained and all displays are easy to see. Damage or notable signs of use were not found during the inspection of the vehicle, so that the interior presents itself in a very pleasant appearance. The equipment of the vehicle corresponds to the standards of the years, appears very well maintained and is fully operational.

Mileage:

The VW T1 has been moved in almost 50 years only rarely over longer distances and has therefore covered only 4,500 kilometers. This information can be read off the speedometer dial, furthermore the complete documentation for this Bulli guarantees the accuracy of this information. All displays in the vehicle are fully functional, likewise at the instruments and control elements of the VW T1 bus no failure symptoms could be determined.

Engine:

In the VW T1 1500 a robust four-cylinder boxer engine is installed, which produces an output of 44 HP (33.3 KW) with a displacement of nearly 1.5 liters. The transmission is controlled by a 4-speed manual, so the Bulli accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just over 30 seconds and reaches a top speed of about 110 kilometers per hour.
