Volkswagen Golf 2 GTI Special German first delivery Note 2+ light alloy wheels Report (1989)
After the huge success of the VW Einser-GTI, there was no question that there would also have to be a GTI from the successor. This followed in 1984, shortly after the market launch of the Golf 2 and offered a larger selection of engine variants for the first time. The new one had become visibly larger, even if it initially still carried the proven technology under the sheet metal. In the GTI, this meant 112 hp from 1.8 liters, with catalytic converter briefly 107 hp. In 1986, the Wolfsburg added with the GTI 16V. The GTI-specific appearance, such as the enlarged front lip on the bumper, the rear spoiler or the red trim frame around the double headlight grille were of course not missing in the 2nd generation of the VW Golf GTI.
General information about the vehicle:
In this auction a VW Golf 2 GTI "Special" from the year of construction 1989 can now be purchased, which was first registered in February of the same year with the FIN WVWZZZ1GZKW476135 in Germany and has always run in Germany. In addition to a valid TÜV until April 2023, this GTI has a VW certificate and a valuation report from 2019, in which the vehicle was certified a replacement value of € 17,000 and the condition grade 2+.
As a paint color, this VW Golf 2 GTI carries a gray-metallic color - according to statements of the seller, a partially new painting of the car took place over the years, which has been made in the course of restoration work. Inconsistencies or rough traces of use on the exterior cannot be detected, and apparently all add-on parts on the GTI are in very good and completely preserved condition on the body. The seller can rule out an accident during its holding period. The exact state of preservation of the exterior of this car can be found in the further photos
Hankook tyres, which are fitted with BBS light-alloy wheels measuring 185/55 by 15 inches, make a positive impression due to their good condition. In the area of the brakes no complaints can be made and in the area of the chassis sporty springs were used.
Grey fabric sports seats with striped patterns fit perfectly with the exterior paint finish in grey metallic and are preserved in undamaged condition. There is no discernible defect in the entire interior, and signs of wear are hardly noticeable. The following equipment features include: driver's seat with height adjustment, windscreen with grey wedge, side decorative foils with "Special" inscription, rear lights darkened, glazing tinted green, catalytic converter, radio "gamma". For a detailed overview of the interior and its equipment options, we refer to the other photos.
183,260 kilometres can be read from the classic Golf 2 VDO instrument cluster. Various receipts and documents are available, so that the mileage can be described as credible. All instruments, displays and controls work perfectly.
Equipped with a catalytic converter, the 1.8-liter in-line four-cylinder engine installed in this VW Golf 2 GTI delivers 107 hp. The gears are engaged via a 5-speed manual transmission and the power of the engine is thus transferred to the front axle. A retrofitted stainless steel exhaust system registered in the vehicle documents ensures a good sound. In 2020, after consultation with the seller, final service work took place.
Given the age of the vehicle, the condition of the underside of this Golf 2 is in good condition. The idea of mounting a powerful engine into a compact car was not new. And yet it has made the GTI a legend: To this day, a GTI is in the VW model range, now in its 8th generation. A two-GTI not only bears the core of the original model, it also belongs to the almost indestructible second Golf generation. The seller also mentions that a new TÜV can be done so that the future owner can certainly enjoy the next few years in this VW Golf 2 GTI "Special".
